The Norwegian Forest Cat (Wegie) is very unique in many ways, but it does have significant similarities to other breeds (most notably the Maine Coon). These similarities can be confusing for those who are not expert cat fanciers or breeders. There are however subtle characteristics that, once learned, can help you to immediately identify a Wegie.
Norwegian Forest Cat Personality Traits
The Wegie is a very family-friendly cat. It is no doubt one of the nicest breeds to own, regardless of how many kids or elderly family members live at home. While it is true that most cats can be trained and conditioned to be compatible with a family and kids, the Norwegian Forest Cat doesn’t need any special training–it is naturally compatible with humans!
How Big Can Norwegian Forest Cats Get?
Norwegian Forest Cats (a.k.a. Wegies) are a large breed that closely resemble their Maine Coon “cousins”. They have a rugged look with a semi-long coat and would have no problem blending right in with the other forest animals. Their fur is coarse and waterproof, so they can withstand the harsh winters of their native Norway. They come in just about every color and pattern variations (except seal point, chocolate point and Siamese of course). Wegies are natural born hunters, known for their muscular bodies and athletic nature. But just how big can they get?
